new city of kentwood park coming soon
May 8, 2020
It is with gratefulness and excitement that I am honored to announce that the City of Kentwood has received a gift in the form of 109 acres of land within its borders! The former Christian Athletic Center property located at 36th Street and Shaffer Avenue is now owned by the City of Kentwood and its residents! The story of how the City became the receiver of such a gift is a long one which started with a phone call to me in December of 2018. After 18 months of working with our donor to whom I refer to as our Ambassador of Peace, the closing of the property is completed as of yesterday afternoon. The donor contributed significant funds to the Kentwood Community Foundation for the sole purpose of gifting the property to the City to be used by our residents and the West Michigan community for recreation activity.Plans for the future use of the property will begin soon with its implementation to be realized in years to come. I encourage you to take your family and pets to hike on the property and enjoy Kentwood’s newest jewel set in the heart of our City. I personally look forward to the many smiles on our kids’ and family members’ faces as the property takes on a new life.
Blessings to you all,
Mayor Kepley
